About the English Department:
The Glenbard North English department is committed to developing independent learners and sophisticated thinkers who, through rigorous study of complex texts, can confidently engage in textual analysis and maturely and skillfully communicate ideas in both oral and written form.  We are dedicated to preparing students for a 21st century society in which, regardless of their aspirations, students will be asked to think, argue, and inspire. As such, students will acquire and develop the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills outlined in the Common Core State Standards while forming an appreciation for the power of the written word.  Using classic and contemporary literary works as well as various non-fiction selections that illuminate the human experience and promote empathy, students will uncover the larger purpose of each text, consider multiple perspectives, and reflect on their own role in society.
